Known for her friendliness, approachability, and genuine hospitality, Kathy is here to make your stay in Wayne County relaxing and comfortable. A resident of Bethany for more than 35 years, Kathy's knowledge of activities, restaurants, and attractions can help you make the most out of your time in Honesdale and the surrounding region.
The house itself is named after Eliphalet Kellogg, its original builder. He was born in the early 1740’s in Brookfield, Connecticut. Later in life he served as a member of the first New Hampshire Regiment during the Revolutionary War before settling in Wayne County with his family in 1815.
He lived in The Sitgrave House while building the main house. He raised a family here. One of his daughters married Dr. Isaac Roosa and her father gave him “The Sitgrave House” as her marriage portion. Dr. Roosa used it as his apothecary. The property remained in the family from 1815 thru the early 1950s when it was sold to Mrs. Louise Pierpont Ladd.
Louise and her family were from New York City, but often celebrated summer in the Bethany area. Upon her marriage to Clifford Pierpont Ladd, Louise and her husband summered in the Sitgrave House for many years before purchasing the Main House. The house started as a log cabin and was re-configured into the current size in the late 1800s. No further renovations had taken place prior to the Ladd’s ownership. Only in the 1950s when Louise and her husband added indoor plumbing and heating were they able to stay in the house year-round. Louise was an avid Yankees fans and listened to all the games on her transistor radio. Surely she would love watching the Yankees play on Montage Mountain.
After raising her own family in the home, Kathy is now sharing its history and comfort with guests. We keep bees on the property and they make the honey for the E. Kellogg Bee and Bee Honey! The house is shared with a friendly cat, Iris, who is declawed and is not allowed in the guest areas’. Enjoy.
